What Makes a Bad or Good Traffic Exchange? – Part II

First let me say what good traffic exchange owners do not do. You will not find them recommending ‘get rich quick schemes’, traffic exchanges that offer 100,000 credits for 19.00 that will never be completely delivered, TEs that give away 100s of credit for joining, giving away credits for showing referral pages, recommending auto surfs, having an auto surf as part of their manual traffic exchange. A good owner will not buy a $79 script and then choose a domain name very similar to a well run traffic exchange and throw it up without any thought to design.

Tim Linden just announced a commission structure for StartXchange. 5%/10%/20% for Free/Gold/Platinum member. As he has stated it may go up at some point when he knows exactly how this’ll affect income/sales. He recently started interviewing traffic exchange owners. Here is his recent interview with Jon Olson. Tim started a new series on his blog – How to spot a Bad Traffic Exchange. It is his attempt to educate people on how to identify a ‘bad exchange’ and what describes a ‘good exchange’. He is always tinkering with his exchange improving it with each adjustment. Tim is a good traffic exchange owner.

If I could build the perfect traffic exchange owner, I would clone Paul Kinder of TrafficSplash. In about 18 months he has taken a run down traffic exchange with few active members to what it is today. A traffic exchange that is number one or two in all the major programs that track traffic exchanges. He has made a splash page showing these ranking – pretty impressive. In a NetMarketingForum, Paul posted some of his major accomplishments:

“Who made the term Surf Rewards and the practice of giving surfers far more for their efforts really popular in this last year? Traffic-Splash!
Who started big surfer giveaway back in June last year? Traffic-Splash!
Who did the first joint surfer giveaway for this owners’ birthday in November? Traffic-Splash!
Who keeps creating different promotional methods that get much copied? Traffic-Splash!
Almost all of the joint promo’s that grew Traffic-Splash were created by …. Traffic-Splash!”

Paul will assist most anyone who is serious about traffic exchanges. Time after time his name is mentioned by people he has assisted in growing their traffic exchange. Paul is a good traffic exchange owner.

There is one person who I think is the ‘King of Traffic Exchange Promotion’ – Jon Olson. Jon’s NetMarketingForum is the place to hang out to learn what some of the most successful traffic exchange owners have to say. The discussions can cut years from your learning curve for using and owning traffic exchanges. If you are opening a cookie cutter traffic exchange without modification and with no thought to design, the advice be brutally honest. However, if you take it to heart, you can have a successful traffic exchange. Ignore the advice and your traffic exchange will soon be in the junkyard of traffic exchanges.

Since 2003, Jon’s HitExchangeNews has been the traffic exchange newsletter to read. The focus has been on traffic exchanges and I eagerly await each new issue.

Jon also wrote the first paperback book on the subject of traffic exchanges. Hits, Clicks and Misses: The Traffic Exchange Experienceis a must read for everyone that has ever used or intends to use traffic exchanges.

The ‘TE Guy’ is certainly the head cheer leader for the traffic exchange industry. Jon, personally owns 2 traffic exchanges – ILoveHits, Swat Traffic and is a partner with Robert Puddy in ClickCrazey. Jon is a good traffic exchange owner.

There will definitely be more on this subject. I think you will agree there is a lot more to owning a traffic exchange then throwing up a cheap script using the default settings with no modifications or design thought.
